What Are Kraft Bags and Why Are They So Popular?

The packaging is as important for the sales of any product as its characteristics or marketing tricks. In the first place, buyers pay attention to the appearance of products. If the seller has taken care of a high-quality and reliable package, the client remains satisfied and returns more than once.

In recent years, a responsible attitude towards the environment and the planet as a whole has been considered a sign of good manners. Many entrepreneurs are launching new environmental initiatives that win respect from their customers. Naturally, in the process of "greening" business, attention is paid to the use of plastic and polyethylene. Both global corporations and small companies or start-ups are trying to refuse from such hazardous materials.

What can replace plastic bags in supermarkets, for example? After all, purchases still have to be put somewhere. It is necessary to find an equally durable and spacious option. Polyethylene is being replaced by kraft bags in Kyiv and other large and small cities. Why is this packaging so popular? And how does the process of its creation look like?

What Are Kraft Bags?

Kraft bags are an environmentally friendly type of packaging that is created from special thick paper. For their production, manufacturers use only natural materials that have sufficient density and strength and that are also suitable for recycling.

To understand the benefits of such products, it is worth understanding what kraft paper is. This paper became the basis for the production of environmental bags. Such material is created from natural softwood cellulose, which is pre-boiled and processed. The thickness of the paper varies. It is from 30-40 g/m2 to 130 g/m2, depending on the purpose of the raw material.

Today you can buy kraft bags in different places, but not all of them will be durable and reliable. Despite the apparent simplicity, the production process of such products is multi-stage and requires special attention. It looks like this:

  1. Cleaning. The pulp is cleaned and washed so that there are no excess particles in it.
  2. Creation of the base. A large amount of water is added to the cellulose so that it becomes liquid and uniform. Then it is sent to a special flat-grid mechanism where all excess moisture flows down, and the fibers gently settle and lay down in an even layer.
  3. Pressing. The settled fibers fall under a heavy press where they are well squeezed.
  4. Additional drying. Even after the flat-screen mechanism and pressing, moisture remains in the base. It is disposed of by additional drying with hot cylinders.
  5. After drying, a uniform layer of paper is sent for cutting. Next, the received fabricated parts are glued together, handles are added, etc.

In most cases, cellulose is sulfated before use. The seams of any kraft packaging are connected with starch-based glue. It dries quickly enough and provides strong adhesion. If necessary, perforation or printing can be done at the production stage. But more often, typography does this.

Where and How You Can Use Eco-bags?

Eco-bags are great for use in a wide variety of areas. There are products of different density, strength, and dimensions on sale. You can even choose the type of handles. Thanks to this variety, paper packaging is ordered for businesses of any niche. But the most popular options are:

  • storage and transportation of food, household chemicals, and other goods;
  • gift wrap;
  • branded gift wrapping for regular customers, conference participants, various events, etc.;
  • storage of working tools (manicure, tattooing, etc.);
  • packaging of disposable products;
  • packaging for restaurants with food delivery.

Eco-friendly bags do more than just help get rid of unnecessary debris that remains in the soil for decades. They are not inferior in quality to polyethylene and other materials; therefore, they become their full replacement.

Kraft Bags and Their Advantages

Naturally, the main advantage of any type of kraft bags is their environmental friendliness. Cellulose is a natural material that degrades quickly and does not harm the environment. Compared to the same plastic bags that can lie in the ground for decades, craft paper disintegrates into fibers after the first rain.

An environmentally-friendly approach to doing business earns respect among customers and allows you to get a certain amount of trust. That is why many large supermarkets and stores are gradually switching to the use of kraft bags. This little detail can improve your reputation and preserve the environment.

With all the ease of recycling and disposal, kraft paper packaging is reusable. If the bag is created using modern technologies and per all quality requirements, its seams do not diverge even when wet, and the handles remain intact. Each product is marked with the maximum weight that it can withstand. Provided that the product is not overloaded, it perfectly retains its shape and integrity.

Another important point is the particular structure of cellulose. These bags are often used to store food: fruits, vegetables, herbs. Since the paper is porous, it allows air to pass through. Thanks to this, the products retain their freshness for a long time. It is especially true for greenery. With normal air exchange, it does not wither, does not lose its attractive appearance, and remains useful.

It is also worth paying attention to the fact that in many cases, kraft bags are more convenient to use than plastic ones. They have a compact shape with a large capacity. Quality handles fit comfortably in hand and do not leave paint marks on the skin.

And last but not least is the appearance. Kraft products always look stylish and aesthetically attractive. Besides, the paper itself is perfect for coloring in a variety of shades. It is easy to apply a print of any complexity to it, so there is no better place for advertising. Such packages attract attention and look really presentable.
